Studio Images

For the images used within the CD cover i went to the photography studio at Shiney Row college. This allowed me to achieve the goal of making the images within the cover look professional giving the audience a better perception of the artist and making the images a better quality. Out of the 28 images that i have taken i will choose the most appropriate and best quality images to suit what my cd cover is trying to achieve. i took a variety of images taken at different angles in order give me a range of images to choose from.

Time Management

Today i will be going into the photography studio at Shiney Row in order to take images for my CD cover for the inside pages, and for the second ancillary task.
I will then use the time i have off this week to start editing my images to get them looking professional by using different softwares such as Adobe Photoshop and Ribbet.

RECCE For Filming - Studio

One potential hazard of the studio based filming may cables on the floor from the lighting in the studio, this is a potential hazard as someone could trip over the wire and possible gain an injury.
To minimise this hazard i will move the wires out of any pathways in the studio and make others aware of where the wires are so that they do not trip over.
The weather is not a problem for this part of filming as it will be shot indoors with artificial lighting, so this will not be an issue.
The background of the shoot will be white, as it will be shot in a studio. Although this can be changed when it comes to film editing if i wish for it to be a different colour.
Lighting of the image will not be an issue as the lighting will be provided by the flash of the camera along with the lighting in the studio, this will allow me to keep the film looking professional.
The only permission i need to take the images is booking the studio, this is to make sure that there are no classes trying to use the studio at the same time so myself and the people i will be filming with can have the studio to ourselves.
I will not be reliant on lifts to get to the studio as i live in walking distance of the Shiney Row photography studio. The main subject in the video and throughout my work is committed to helping my achieve my final outcome as she is a good friend, furthermore i am also helping her out by featuring in her video. Both my and my friend Kelly will provide the props and costume, including makeup and hair styling that i will need for my video.

CD Cover-Back Page: Draft 2

i have altered the size of the song titles seen on the left of the page, i have also added in the record label Fueled By Ramen. This is a record company who produce the song which i am using for my music video. Furthermore i removed the dark shadow that was over the Bar Code i also darkened down the colours on the image on the right of the page to make the outline stand out more on the page. At the bottom of the cover i added the URL address of the website to link the products together and allow the audience to explore the artist further.

Editing Original Images

To create the background for my CD cover i used the slow release setting on the camera which allowed me to draw shapes with light. i created the light from an app on my ipod touch in which the screen flashed multiple colours. i overlayed the images ontop of eachother to create the final effect of the finished product. (as shown below in the print screens). i also deleted the background of each image so that the image could overlay without any parts of black background blocking the images behind. i used the magic easor tool to achieve this, using the normal erasor to get rid of any parts which were not deleted by the magic erasor. i also changed the brightness of the images to make the colours stand out even more than previous, as the main image is dark so it will aid it to stand out.

Peer Feedback of Ancillary Task

Do you disagree with any feedback?
i generally agree with the feedback that i have received as there was some ideas suggested that i though could have been adapted. such as, making the main image of the front cover stand out more against the background. Another suggestion was to change the image to a different camera angle so that the subject in the image is facing straight at the camera rather than slightly angled. i disagree with one comment which states that the image is too dark, this is only because the background of the image is so bright that the image needs to be dark in order for it to stand out on the page.

Has it helped and why?
It has helped me as i can assess some of the things in which i need to change to make a better version of my product. furthermore the peer assessment was conducted by people who are in my target audience which will allow me to alter my product according to the needs and wants of the audience.

How will you act on this feedback?
i will act on my feedback by making the changes which were suggested by my peers. This will help to make my product the best it can be, i will use photoshop to make these changes as this is the program i used to produce my front and back of the cd cover.

Original Images used in Ancillary Task

Original Images for Ancillary

The animoto video that i have created contains the original image which i had taken specifically for the creation of my CD cover.

Ancillary Task -CD Cover

i used the editing program photoshop in order to create this product, using all my own images (appart from the bar code).
The font which i have used to create the name of the artist, name of CD and names of songs was a font called 'Death from Above' which i was able to get in the colour white with a black background. i was then able to edit the font by using the magic eraser tool to remove the background in order for any images behind the text to be seen clearly.
I edited both of the images using photosho by applying an effect and then going over the effect with the paint brush tool which allowed me to make the outline of the effect to stand out more on the page.
To create the background on the front cover i overlayed three images which i can taken by using the slow release setting on my camera. i created the star background on the back of the CD cover in the same way.

Song Permission

In order to use the song for my music video i had to email send an email to request the permission, if i do not receive a response from the label then i will assume that i am able to use the song. To get the contact information i went onto the Paramore website where it came up with a list of contact details which i used in order to apply for permission.

Song Chosen for Music Video

I have chosen the song (one of those) Crazy Girls for the music for my video because the song isn't a typical rock song, this will make is stand out against other rock songs and make for a memorable performance. The song starts off quite slow but speeds up as it reaches the chorus, this will allow me to use a variety of shots which move in time with the music.

Facial Expression Theorists

I have researched the theorist Marjorie Ferguson (1980s) who looked into facial expressions of people on the front of magazines in which she came up with 4 different types: chocolate box, invitational, super-smiler and sexual or romantic.
This is something that i will consider when producing my CD cover as i want to project a certain image of the artist. i think the most suitable for my CD cover would be Chocolate box as it has eye contact with the camera therefore making a connection with the audience.

Another is Trevor Millum (1990s), he suggested 5 different expressions:

Seductive
Similar to cool/ level
Eyes less wide
Expression is less reserved but still self-confident
Milder

Carefree
Nymph like
Active
Healthy
Vibrant
Outdoor girl
Often smiling/ grinning

Practical
Concentrating
Engaged in business in hand
Mouth closed
Eyes object directed
Sometimes a slight frown
Hair often tied back or short style

Comic
Deliberately ridiculous
Exaggerated
Acting the fool
Pulling faces

Catalogue
A neutral look as of a dummy, artificial, wax like
Features may be in any position- but most likely to be with eyes open wide and a smile
Looks remain vacant and empty with personality removed

Analysis of Flat Plan

Flat Plan of Ancillary Task - CD Cover

Front View

Back View

The layout of the flat plan is quite simple featuring the artist's name at the top of the CD cover with the image in the middle and the name of the album at the bottom of the page. This will give the CD cover a clear layout, making it easy for the audience to differentiate between the name of the artist and the name of the CD.
The image below is the final choice of font i am using for my CD Cover, text is the name of the artist 'luna starrs'. I have edited the text so that it has pink and blue flecks of colour with a violet glow around it by using the software photoshop. i used different tools such as the brush tool, which i used to create the glow around the text and altered the opacity of the brush so that there wouldn't be a harsh line around the text. ni will be using the same font throughout the CD cover to create a house style for the cover, furthermore sticking to the same colour scheme.

The text on the back of the CD cover we be situated on the left side of the page as this is the way in which we read (from left to right), with the song titles written in different sized fonts fitting around the shape of the sub image.
The main image will be of the lead singer, who is the main artist of the band. The image will be situated within the middle of the page as a medium shot showing the subject from the waist upwards. the pose that she will pull will be serious, looking directrly at the camera in order to make a connection with the audience. i will edit the image using photoshop using various tools in order to create an effect that looks almost cartoon. The subject of the image will wear hair down, swept to the side wearing dark clothing which conforms to the stereotype of rock music, allowing the audience to make their own assumptions about the type of music she may produce.
On the back of the CD cover will be a sub image of the side profile of the artist, using the same edition on photoshop to creat the same effect on the image as that on the front of the CD cover. this creates a link between the front and the back of the CD cover and sticks to to a particular theme.

Inspirational Fonts

I used the website dafont to aid me in finding a suitable font for the creation of a logo in order to create a brand for the band which will be seen in on both the website and the CD album cover. Due to the fact that my band will be performing a rock song I though that the font should fit that kind of genre so I found 3 fonts which look like they could belong to a rock band. I will most likely choose one of these three fonts to feature on the front of my CD cover, although I will edit the font on photoshop to alter the colour of the text so it isn't just black and white.
